Homework Week 34

posted 6 Jun 2015, 07:10 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

The children were moved around in the classroom last week and now have a new table and a new shape (and jobs). We may have the school sports day someday soon. That will be weather dependent and will probably be organised at short notice. Our Aistear theme is The Bank. We are talking about spending and saving.

This week we will be learning more words from our final reader “Stop That Dog” (Purple Book 6) and the children will be learning about mass and weight. We will continue hurling on PE days (Mondays and Thursdays). Any child that has a Hurley or Helmet can bring them in. I have spare hurleys and helmets for everyone.

Thanks

Mr Gleeson

Each child will get their own word wallet. We will be using these throughout the year. In the wallet is a coloured and white card.

Coloured Card = New words

As we learn the words we will cut them out of the coloured card in class. The white cards are for matching and not are to be cut. The children can “match” by placing coloured cards on top of the white card. These short activities should be done every day for homework. (4 times a week)

Word Wallet activities.

1.     Match the coloured card to its place on the white card. (Place the kicking on top of the white kicking)

2.    Say the word.

3.    Ask the children for a sentence with that word in it. (Max is kicking the ball)

If a word/sound gets lost just make a new one. These activities will change throughout the year.

Homework Week 32 & 33

posted 30 May 2015, 10:59 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

Thanks to Ms Sheehy for taking the class last week. We had a great time and a lovely day at Stonehall Farm. There will be no school next Monday (Bank Holiday) or Tuesday (1st and 2nd of June). We may have the school sports day someday soon. That will be weather dependent and will probably be organised at short notice. I have planned the homework for these two short weeks together. Our Aistear Theme is moving from the Farm to The Bank. We hope to visit The Bank soon. Thank you for sending in the items for the farm. I will return those soon. I will move the children around next week (Week 33) so they will be at a new table and have a new shape (and jobs).

This week we will be learning the words from our final reader “Stop That Dog” (Purple Book 6) and the children will be learning the story of 10. We will start learning some hurling skills during PE from this Thursday. So on PE days (Mondays and Thursdays) any child that has a Hurley or Helmet can bring them in. I have spare hurleys and helmets for everyone.

Thanks

Homework Week 28

posted 26 Apr 2015, 15:09 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

Thank you for keeping those extra worksheets and returning the form for the School Tour. The school Tour to Stonehall Farm is on May 22nd. Our Aistear Theme is still the Hairdressers/Barbers. If you have any items/clothes that would help us play then send them in and I will return them when we are finished this theme.

We are completing some Standardised Reading (Early Literacy Test) and Maths (MALT) tests with your child in class over the next few weeks. These will establish their current reading age and maths ability age. We will share these results with you in due course.

This week we will be continuing to read the alternative readers to “What a Mess” (Orange Book No 5). These books have no new words. You should have a different reader from last week. We will be sowing some seeds and learning about opposites. On Friday we will be out and about as part of “National Spring Clean” week.

Thanks

Dear Parents,

Thank you for signing and returning the Easter Maths Test and Word Check. Our Aistear Theme is now the Hairdressers/Barbers. If you have any items/clothes that would help us play then send them in and I will return in a few weeks when we are finished this theme.

Make sure to try the www.oxfordowl.co.uk website. It has loads of suitable books to read and activities to complete. Click on the Oxford Owl icon on the left on our Class Website. Login using our room1 username and password. Username: room1stannesps  Password: Gilly2013. Try the books with band Lilac to start with.

Some day this week you will see a bundle of worksheets that your child has completed in class and for homework. I have kept samples of your child’s work here. You can keep these at home.

We will visit and return our books to the library this week. Some of you may have got a text to say the book is overdue. This week we will be continuing to read the alternative readers to “What a Mess” (Orange Book No 5). These books have no new words. We will continue learning about electricity and addition in columns – instead of adding like this 2+2=8 we will add like this

Homework Week 24

posted 15 Mar 2015, 16:24 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

Thank you for returning the library cards. We visited the local library last Thursday and the children read a book with their reading buddies in Room 16 (4th Class). Our Musical Oliver is now just a week away. The children of Room 10 will be performing on Tuesday 24th of March at 7pm. I forgot to give out most of the homework folder on last Thursday so children will finish their reader this Monday and get a new one on Wednesday this week.

Aistear Theme – The Building Site.

Included in the homework this week is a vocabulary sheet on tools and buildings. Please ask your children what each picture is and

Who might use that tool (Tools)? or Where would you see that building? (Buildings)

This week we will be continuing to learn how to read the names of the children in the class, learn about left/right and 1st/2nd/3rd/last and talk about St. Patrick.

Thanks

Mr Gleeson

Reminders

Homework

On Mondays I will give you a note in the homework folder with the homework for the week. It will also let you know some of the things we are doing in class. Homework will usually tie into what we are doing in class that week.

Readers

I will give out 2 readers per week. Please read the story together on both nights, and then fill out the reading log on the second night. The reading log can be kept in the homework folder.

Aistear

The children will be given time to creatively play using a given theme. Our first theme is the “The Building Site”. If you have some items at home that would help us play please send them in. We will return them in a few weeks when we move on to another theme.

PE

Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays so children can wear their tracksuits on those days.

Lunches

If children don’t eat something I will send that home so you will know. If you want to change your child’s lunch order then drop me a note in the homework folder. You can view your child’s current lunch order on our class website. It’s the link on the left hand side called “School Lunches”.

Questions

If there are any questions please ask. If you can’t make it into the school my email is vincent.gleeson@stannesps.ie for any questions. I usually check that every day.
