Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed the Halloween Mid Term Break. Thank you for using the Studyladder website during the previous week, sending in the items for the building site and signing the Halloween tests. This week we will be learning about rough/smooth, the Earth and writing our own names. Thanks Mr Gleeson
Word Wallet activities. Jolly Phonics – for each sound 1. Match the green card to its place on the white card. (Place the green a on top of the white a) 2. Children make the sound and show you the action. (e.g. a, a, a ants on my arm) 3. Ask the children for a word or words starting with that sound. (ant, apple, Alice, etc) 4. Call out the sounds in a word and get the children to use the green cards to spell that word. (c-a-t cat , m-a-n man) We are trying to blend the sounds together to see if we know the word. (new) Some other words sat, sit, pit, pat, tap, tip, nap, ant, pan, tin, cat, pick, sack, set, pet, neck, hen, hat, hip, rat, rip, ran rest, mat, met, man, camp, ramp, did, den, red, sand, drip, dig, gas, grip, snag, tag (try any 3 per night)
Sight Word activities. 1. Match the yellow card to its place on the white card. (Place the yellow Kitty on top of the white Kitty) 2. Say the word. 3. Ask the children for a sentence or sentence with that word in it. (The boy has a ball) 4. Ask the children to make up a sentence using the words they have. (Kitty has Teddy) 5. Ask the children how many letters there are in the word. (ball has 4 letters)
If a word/sound gets lost just make a new one. These activities will change throughout the year.
Aistear Our Aistear theme is the Building Site.
Jolly Phonics 42 sounds in order
Look out Teddy (the children need to be able to recognise “the” and “The” as being the same)
Reminders PE Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays so children can wear their tracksuits on those days. Lunches Children are now getting the school lunch. If they don’t eat something I will send that home so you will know. If you want to change your child’s lunch order then drop me a note in the homework folder. You can view your child’s current lunch order on our class website. It’s the link on the left hand side called “School Lunches”. Questions If there are any questions please ask. If you can’t make it into the school my email is vincent.gleeson@stannesps.ie for any questions. I usually check that every day.
