Dear Parents,

 

Just a reminder of what the homework plan is. On Mondays I will give you a note in the homework folder with the homework for the week. It will also let you know some of the things we are doing in class. Homework will tie into what we are doing in class that week.

We will be learning and revising our Jolly Phonics sounds every day. There are 42 letter sounds in all and we will be working our way through them several times throughout the year. We covered the s,a,t and i letter sounds so far. The children will learn the letter sounds first with the purpose of putting them together to read words later on. In addition to the letter sounds we will also learn sight words. These are common words that the children should know without having to sound out. This week we will start learning some sight words (Look and has)

Readers

I will give out 2 Readers per week. Some of these will have words some will not. The purpose is to get the children ready to read. You will do the reading for now. Help your child to understand the story by talking about the cover and predicting what they think might be happen in the story. Talk about the pictures on each page and ask them questions about things in the pictures. At the end ask them what they thought about the book, what was their favorite part, did they find it funny/scary/sad? Did they learn anything new from it? On the second day please read again and fill out the reading log. The reading log can be kept in the homework folder.

This Week.

This week we will be using a scissors, talking about making friends, games with rules, and the colour green.

English: “All Write Now” pg 5. Watch out for pencil grip. It should be a Tripod Grasp.

Reader: Discuss and read.

Bring in something Green.

 

Tuesday:

Maths: Matching Handout p 11

English: Reading Zone Activity book P4

Reader: Discuss and fill out reading log.                        

 

Wednesday:

Maths: Matching Handout p 12

English: “All Write Now” pg 6.

Reader: Discuss and read.                   

 

Thursday:

Maths: Planet Math pg 4

English: Reading Zone Activity book P5

Reader: Discuss and fill out reading log.

Bring in a game for 2-4 players that you know how to play.
