Homework Week 19

posted 25 Jan 2014, 12:12 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

The children are continuing to “Buddy Read” with children from 3rd class on Fridays. Please ask your child how they got on. What book they read and what the story was about.

We will continue the “Go Finn Go” reader this week and learn some more tricky words. Remember tricky words have to be learned by sight. The children cannot sound out these words using the 42 phonics sounds they have learned. Please keep practicing the Jolly Phonics sounds and words on the following page. Children should be able to give at least two example words containing each sound. This week’s words are question words try to use them when talking to your child.

In Maths we are learning about time. We are reading time to the hour. One O’clock, Two O’clock etc. I have assigned some activities on the Studyladder website. Each child has been assigned their own login name and password. That will be stuck inside their homework folder. There is a link on our class website to a Studyladder login page. Just find their name and login using their password provided.

Thanks Mr. Gleeson

3.    Ask your child for another word that has that sound.

If your child has difficulties with the word ask them to sound it out. Eg Kitty K-i-t-t-y or has h-a-s.

This skill of sounding out or attacking a word will help with many new words in the future.
